Inspired by a visit to space camp at age 10, fifteen-year-old Becca Robison decided she wanted to be an Astronaut. Other kids ridiculed her and told her it was a “boy’s job,” which inspired Becca to found Astrotots, Space Camp for Little Dippers.
Astrotots is a science camp that teaches young girls that science is fun. Becca started the camp in her backyard in 2002; since then, it has grown and created spin-off science camps. 5 – 9 science camps are held each year. Outgrowing Becca’s backyard, Astrotots is presently held in community centers with a focus on centers in low income areas.
Becca Robison didn’t let the ridicule of other kids deter her dream to be an astronaut. She was determined to prove to kids that science is definitely also “for girls.” To read more about Becca’s effort, visit www.astrotots.org.
