Valerie Sobel

In a tragic year that included the loss of her son to a brain tumor and the suicide of her husband, Valerie Sobel asked herself this question “How could my experience have been worse?” Valerie’s answer was financial instability. Bothered by the fact that there were single parents in similar situations, but unlike her lacked the financial support and family, Valerie founded The Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation in memory of her son.

ASRL Foundation provides financial assistance to single caregivers of catastrophically ill children. Since 2000, the foundation has grown to a national effort, and 2,000 families have received a total of $3.2 million in grants. To learn more about Valerie’s work, visit www.andreriveroflife.org.
